Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that features numerous conveniences aside from the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
